Menu Plan, month of October

September was my first attempt at planning a full month of meals at once. It was tough, but working through The Happy Housewife’s Menu Planning 101 really helped me to focus n our favorite meals and sides rather than trying to pull new recipes out of thin air.

It worked out so well for us, that I’ve done it again for October. While it really did take a lot out of me to do a month at a time, it is so wonderful to not have to worry about menu planning every single week. It also allows me to shop for the whole month at once (getting fabulous value out of our Sam’s Club membership) and only having to return to the grocery store for a fruit and dairy refresher mid-month.

As has become normal for us, our “dinner” plans are shifted to lunchtime Monday through Friday since Jason leaves for work at 3 pm for the night shift.

Here is our October menu plan:

Thursday, 1st: I was feeling lazy, so we had Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.

Friday, 2nd: Lemon-Herb Pork Chops with rice and carrots.

Saturday, 3rd: Penne with red sauce and garlic texas toast and salad.

Sunday, 4th: Monterey Chicken with Crash Potatoes and skillet corn.

Monday, 5th: Chicken Noodle Soup with pull-apart rolls.

Tuesday, 6th: Tacos and fruit.

Wednesday, 7th: Pot Roast with corn on the cob and Potato Cheese Casserole.

Thursday, 8th: Roasted Turkey Breast with carrots and leftover potato casserole.

Friday, 9th: Orange Chicken with Veggie Fried Rice.

Saturday, 10th: Baked Ziti and green salad.

Sunday, 11th: Cheese Enchiladas and rice.

Monday, 12th: Beef Stew and cornbread.

Tuesday, 13th: Chicken and Gravy with Crash Potatoes and fruit.

Wednesday, 14th: BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches and salad.

Thursday, 15th: My son Jeremy finally comes home!! So, we’re celebrating by going out to dinner.

Friday, 16th: Jeremy’s favorite meal (well, just about any 3-year old’s favorite meal): Chicken Nuggets with mashed potatoes, carrot sticks and dip.

Saturday, 17th: Hamburgers with fries and fresh fruit.

Sunday, 18th: Homemade Shake & Bake Pork Chops with Baked Apples and rice.

Monday, 19th: Spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic breadsticks (based on our favorite pull-apart rolls recipe).

Tuesday, 20th: Chicken Noodle Soup with leftover garlic breadsticks.

Wednesday, 21st: Pot Roast with carrots and potato cheese casserole.

Thursday, 22nd: Monterey Chicken with Rice-a-Roni and skillet corn.

Friday, 23rd: Cheese Enchiladas and salad.

Saturday, 24th: Tacos and fruit.

Sunday, 25th: Beef Stew and cornbread.

Monday, 26th: Roasted Turkey Breast with carrots and rice.

Tuesday, 27th: Pizza.

Wednesday, 28th: Hamburgers with fries and fruit.

Thursday, 29th: Breakfast for dinner: Eggs, Bacon, and homemade Cinnamon Raisin Bagels (based on Heavenly Homemaker’s bagel recipe).

Friday, 30th: Grilled Steak with Crash Potatoes.

Saturday, 31st: We’ll be taking Jeremy to a Halloween Festival at church and they’ll have lots of things to eat there.
